Advanced Salsa Move #16

August 17, 2011

Ah the Charleston… Is there any style of dance that can’t benefit from some 20s magic? 🙂 The shine before that (called a Toe Wop) was taught to me by a great Hip Hop teacher named Emilia, although I’ve salsified it so it fits in more smoothly with other salsa shines.

The turn pattern here incorporates a simple arm toss, although it was interesting to see how hard it was for my students to pick this one up. I think it’s been so long since I 1st learnt this style of movement that I take it for granted. The secret is to make sure your flicking arm is placed above the lady’s elbow, so that the arm can’t fold on itself.
